Abstract

New liberal arts attempting to innovate traditional liberal arts is formed in latest technological revolution and the new era of socialism with Chinese characteristics. Based on the theory of Yuri Lotman’s Cultural Semiotics, this paper explores the interpretant and cultural symbol of new liberal arts using the methods of literature, semiotics, and qualitative comparison. It is found that the interpretant of new liberal arts includes disciplines integration with various integrated modes, cultivating “T-shaped” innovative talents, building new platform and institutional innovation in China, and the culture symbols of new liberal arts are Chinese macro-culture symbol and micro-teaching culture symbol. This paper hopes to promote new liberal arts development in China and improve teachers’ conscious ability of culture in new liberal arts. In addition, it is the requirement of college students’ development in new liberal arts. Facing the future, constructing new liberal arts is a new trend.
