Abstract

The Westward Movement was one of the historical events in American history that directly contributed to the development of the country in all aspects. It strengthened American individualism, laying a solid spiritual foundation for the growth of America. Simultaneously, the Westward Movement was also a cultural exploration and a source for the rise of native American literature, giving rise to the emergence of its Western literature with a distinctive regional identity. It not only shaped the national spirit, but also fostered its own literature, leading the young nation to maturity and strength. The aim of this paper is to take The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, the famous American western novelist Mark Twain’s masterpiece, as the object of study, exploring the ways in which the Westward Movement, a historical event, influenced the development of indige-nous American literature from the perspective of the national spirit bred by it—individualism.
