Abstract
The opera "Five Star Red Flag", born in the 70th anniversary of the founding of New China, is a masterpiece based on Zeng Liansong, the designer of the five-star red flag. This is a relatively new and relevant topic for Wenzhou University, as no work has previously explored the story of Zeng Liansong. By recounting Zeng Liansong's war experiences, the opera aims to cultivate patriotic feelings among the youth of today. Since its release, the opera has achieved many successes and has been well received by the public. This essay will focus on the portrayal of youth characters in the opera "Five Star Red Flag" and consider its implications for contemporary youth and contemporary opera. The success of "Five Star Red Flag" is inseparable from the perfect conception of librettist Li Changhong, composer Zhu Jiahe, director Wang Huquan, and the all-night rehearsals of Wenzhou University's faculty and student actors. But the core reason is that it conveys the story of the birth of the five-star red flag and celebrates the revolutionary spirit of Chinese sons and daughters who are brave and dedicated, willing to spill their blood, and the family sentiment of putting the country before the family and being unswerving.
