Abstract

Since ancient times, the Chinese people have composed many excellent local folk songs, and Jasmine is one of the masterpieces. Due to the obvious differences in customs and lifestyles between northern and southern China, different versions of Jasmine have taken on the characteristics of each region as history has developed. Not only is there a change in the melody, but also in the lyrics and the form of singing and performing. Jasmine has participated in many international performances and become one of the symbols of cultural exchange between East and West. John Barlow's Travels in China published Jasmine, which was written down in staff for the first time, and the lyrics were translated into Chinese and English. In this paper, I will analyze the Jasmine from Jiangsu, Hebei, Shandong, Gansu, and Northeast China, describing the differences between the Jasmine in each place through the analysis of the score and the style of the song.
