How Can the Full Participation of All Students Including Those with Additional Learning Needs Be Facilitated in Educational Activities?

Abstract

Full participation of all students is significant during the process of teaching activities in the school due to the concept of child-centred becoming more and more dominant in the educational system. Students with additional learning needs or special educational needs (SEN) usually face more difficulties in the learning process, and this article will focus on the facilities in educational activities of all students, including those with SEN. This topic mirrors the concept of ‘inclusive education’ that I will detail in the following part. This module is about the inclusive curriculum, and an excellent inclusive curriculum will enhance the participation of all students, involving those with SEN and vice versa. I will use the knowledge that I learnt in this module to think and discuss the practice of participation increasing. As I used to be a high school chemistry teacher in China, the context I am going to focus on is China. I will use the concepts, theory in this module and my teaching experience to discuss and answer the topic. I will introduce the structure of this essay in the next part. First, I will introduce some key terms in this essay, such as participation and educational activities. Then I will focus on the theory: Universal design for learning (UDL), ecological system theory and assessment systems. Third, I will discuss the main body of this article, how can full all children be facilitated in the educational activities that I choose before. Finally, I will summarise the critical arguments of this article in the conclusion part. Some terminologies are crucial in this article; meanwhile, they will bring some barriers to the understanding of readers who do not have professional knowledge. I will clear some key terminologies first in the next section.
