Abstract
Based on Sinclair’s theory of extended units of meaning, we constructed a small corpus using reports related to China’s digital economy from the NOW Corpus over the past three years. We utilized WordSmith Tool 6.0 to analyze the node word, collocates, colligation, semantic preference, and semantic prosody. The analysis aimed to understand Western media’s perspectives and perceptions of China’s digital economy. The results indicate that Western media pays attention to issues related to “data” in their coverage of China’s digital economy. Faced with challenges and difficulties in the development of digital technologies, China has actively taken measures, especially concerning data security. China has also implemented various regulations to safeguard the development of its digital economy and digital technologies. Particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, China’s digital economy has experienced rapid growth, contributing significantly to the country’s economic growth and benefiting its people. These developments have showcased China’s digital image to a great extent.
