Abstract

Adjacent to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, there is a trade route known as the Musk Road that runs west along the northern and southern edges of the Tarim Basin. This road is considered the counterpart to the ancient Silk Road. Tibet strengthened its communication and exchange with its neighbors through the Silk Road when Songtsen Gampo unified the Plateau. Khotan, strategically located at the junction of the southern branch of the famous Silk Road, became an important hub for cultural and political exchanges with Tibet. This paper aims to examine the importance of the exchanges between Tibet and Khotan along the Musk Road from the perspectives of geography, politics, and culture. The goal is to study the historical contributions that the Road made to the economic and social development in China's southwest and northwest frontier areas, as well as its role in the formation, enrichment, and preservation of the Chinese cultural circle. Meanwhile, the Silk Road has strongly demonstrated the development and formation of China's diversified and integrated culture since ancient times.
