Abstract
Self-efficacy is an assessment of an individual's belief in their ability to successfully complete a specific task. Self-efficacy is considered an important psychological factor and may be closely related to academic performance in English. College students' English learning is a challenging task, as they must navigate through various factors, including language difficulty, academic pressure, and self-discipline. Therefore, understanding the importance of self-efficacy in relation to college students' English performance is highly significant in promoting their English learning outcomes and enhancing the quality of education. Although some studies have explored the relationship between self-efficacy and academic performance, there are relatively few studies related to English learning among college students. This study aims to address the research gap and investigate the relationship between self-efficacy and English performance among college students. We hypothesized that students with high self-efficacy will show better performance in English learning, while students with low self-efficacy may face learning difficulties and frustration. Through investigating and analyzing university students, this study will provide valuable information on educational practices. Educators can learn from these research findings and take corresponding measures to improve students' self-efficacy. This, in turn, will enhance their motivation and performance in English learning. In addition, understanding the relationship between self-efficacy and English performance can help students realize their potential and abilities, enabling them to face the challenges of English learning with more confidence.
