Abstract

English learning is not only the acquisition of language skills but also cultural exchange and mutual learning. However, the existing English textbooks mainly introduce English literature and culture, and the proportion of Chinese culture is less. Therefore, it is one of the important tasks of public English courses in higher education to infiltrate Chinese traditional culture into college English teaching. This paper introduces the absence of traditional Chinese culture in English text-books and then provides some topics of traditional festivals, traditional virtues, Chinese literature and folk tales, places of interest in China, Chinese cuisine, and revolutionary culture, that can be supplemented in English teaching. This paper analyzes the significance and necessity of the infiltration of Chinese traditional culture in college English teaching and puts forward some topics of the infiltration of Chinese culture that can make up for the shortage of teaching materials, such as traditional festivals, traditional virtues, Chinese literature and folk tales, and places of interest in China. Hopefully, this study can arouse people's attention to Chinese culture education in English education and cultivate learners' cultural confidence and cross-cultural communication ability.
