Abstract

The main objective of this work is to understand deeply the degree to which local NGOs are impacting the socio-economic development of one group of individuals recognized by the UN as indigenous. The case study will work on the Burundian indigenous community. This summary will first allow the approach taken, during the present research from the study of our initial questioning, to the analysis of the data on the case studied. In addition, it will summarize the secondary objectives pursued during our research work. This work is essentially focused on the impact of the achievements of local non-governmental organizations on the socio-economic conditions of indigenous people, especially on the interventions of Harvest Initiatives among the indigenous people in Busiga Commune of Ngozi Province in Burundi. Thus, in order to achieve the above-mentioned mission, four hypotheses were formulated in this study: H1: Harvest Initiatives' interventions are having a positive impact on changing the living conditions of the indigenous people of Busiga; H2: The mechanisms for identifying the needs of the indigenous people enable them to target the real problems of the indigenous population. H3: The indigenous families of Busiga are involved in decision-making for their development. H4: The interventions of local NGOs have helped build the capacities of the beneficiaries in order to sustain the achievements. In order to carry out our research, various theories and existing literature related to our topic were consulted. In our work, in the actual terms of the study, we went to the field to collect data using a questionnaire from the beneficiaries of Harvest Initiatives' interventions in the indigenous community of Busiga commune, according to Alain Bouchard's formula with the snowball sampling technique that allowed us to conduct a survey on 70 individuals.
