Abstract
This study investigates the significant role of pragmatist philosophy in contemporary education, specifically within the domain of art and design education. Drawing from the core principle of seeking truth from facts, the study explores the influence of pragmatist philosophy on art design and its educational implications. Through a comprehensive literature review and case study analysis, this research identifies key themes and patterns. The findings underscore the importance of pragmatist philosophy in fostering creativity, critical thinking, reflective practice, collaboration, and the cultivation of aesthetic experiences among art and design students. The integration of pragmatist approaches into education enhances students' ability to engage in critical inquiry, make informed decisions, and develop socially responsible and sustainable artistic practices. The influence of pragmatist philosophy on art design lies in its emphasis on practical consequences and its holistic understanding of the discipline. Art design education, guided by pragmatist philosophy, adopts a people-oriented approach that prioritizes authenticity and practicality, integrating subjective and objective elements while tailoring teaching to students' aptitudes and real-life circumstances. Ultimately, the study highlights how the integration of pragmatist principles in art design education facilitates students' comprehensive development and equips them with the necessary skills and mindset to navigate the challenges of their future artistic endeavors. The research findings contribute valuable insights to the field of art and design education, offering practical guidance for educators and students.
