Abstract

Our research focuses on the contribution of Local Non-Governmental Organizations in improving the living conditions of poor people in Burundi, with Muyinga commune as our study site. The aim was to carry out an in-depth analysis of the strategies of Local Non-Governmental Organizations and to identify the actions carried out in the field by Local Non-Governmental Organizations to reduce poverty in Burundi. The target population consists of 700 beneficiaries of a local Non-Governmental Organization called ODEDIM-CARITAS. Three hypotheses served as a guideline for the research: (1) the development activities carried out by Local Non-Governmental Organizations influence the living conditions of poor people in Muyinga commune; (2) the interventions of Local Non-Governmental Organizations have helped to strengthen the capacities of beneficiaries in the development process; (3) the strategies initiated by Local Non-Governmental Organizations to improve the living conditions of beneficiaries determine the success of their activities. Qualitative and quantitative methods and techniques were used to test these hypotheses. After analyzing the data and interpreting the results, we found that all hypotheses have been confirmed.
