Abstract

East Hubei Province has a long history and rich culture. It is known as one of the eight ancient immigrant holy places in China. The Hakka ancestors migrated from Raozhou, Jiangxi Province at the end of the Ming Dynasty. The population continuously moved to East Hubei Province, greatly influencing the living customs and architectural patterns of the region. The foreign culture they brought was embraced by the openness of the Jingchu culture. Following the opening of Hankou, a significant number of Western missionaries arrived in China to preach. Modern Western architecture found its place here, leading to a cultural exchange and mutual development in East Hubei Province. This interaction gave rise to the unique architectural and cultural characteristics of contemporary East Hubei Province. By studying the construction materials and techniques of residential buildings in East Hubei Province and focusing on the eastward spread of Western influence since the opening of Fufu, we aim to identify the distinctive features of residential buildings in the region. This research will contribute to the study of historical architectural heritage and urban humanistic development in East Hubei Province, offering valuable insights for preserving the cultural essence of rural areas and promoting sustainable urban development in the future.
