Abstract
The TV series The Story of the Rose premiered in June of this year and is characterized by its engaging pace, frequent use of profound dialogues, and exceptional acting performances. It has achieved ratings that effortlessly surpass those of other dramas. Adapted from the renowned author Yi Shu's novel of the same name, the series meticulously portrays Huang Yimei's trajectory of development over a period exceeding two decades, employing nuanced narrative techniques and addressing complex thematic elements. By focusing on the career, romantic life, family, and friendships of the female protagonist Huang Yimei, the narrative delineates the self-actualization, autonomy, and spontaneous growth of modern female characters such as Su Gengsheng, Guan Zhizhi, Jiang Xueqiong, Bai Xiaohe, and Han Ying. This manuscript aims to explore and analyze the con-struction of contemporary female images within the theatrical context through a tripartite analytical framework: the female gaze, narrative technique, and aesthetic viewpoint. The focus is predominantly on the subjective cognition and mental well-being of women, the concept of "sisterhood" and its metaphorical representation, as well as personality development and rational logic. By doing so, we can highlight women's self-existence and their pursuit of personal value, while also providing diverse strategies for constructing modern female images in the creation of mainstream films and television dramas in the future.
