Abstract

Western music seeks unity within contrast, while Eastern music seeks contrast within unity. Traditional Chinese music possesses a unique charm and artistic appeal within the realm of Eastern music, stemming from extensive practice and development. The structural principles of music can be likened to the “grammar” that organizes the language of music, representing the cognitive patterns that humans have derived over extended periods of musical practice in accordance with the natural laws of music. Chinese folk songs from the Shandong region constitute an essential part of Qilu culture, embodying the spiritual wealth passed down through generations of Shandong people. These folk songs not only reflect the cultural aspects of the region but also serve as a mirror of its social history. Additionally, Shandong folk songs are intricately linked to the region's customs, dialects, and local traditions. Embroidering Lotus Pouch is a widely circulated folk song in the Shandong region, narrating the story of a young girl gifting a hand-embroidered lotus pouch to her beloved as an expression of affection. This article aims to analyze and expound upon the artistic characteristics and musical structure of Embroidering Lotus Pouch.
