Abstract

The Kinderszenen Op.15, which is one of the most famous piano suits composed by Robert Schumann, concentratedly reflects Schumann’s creative technique and poetry style. By investigating this piece, we can definitely obtain more knowledge about Romantic Music and especially to better understand the combination between literature and music. In this point, the main topic of this paper is to investigate how the features of the character piece and Romantic piano miniatures are reflected in Kinderszenen as well as to contrast Kinderszenen with other works to describe how its features make this cycle a Romantic work. Also, it is important to approach the reason why Schumann finally chose 13 works for the final version from the 30 movements that he had originally written. For this point, the analysis of the individual movements and their interrelationships will be explored through the study of harmony, form, motive, etc., as well as the research of how the composer expresses his moods and feelings.
