Abstract
This paper focuses on the application of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) in the field of translation, offering a comprehensive analysis of its current status, challenges, and future trends. It highlights the profound transformations that GenAI has brought to various aspects of translation, including translation tools, research, education, practice, and the evolving role of translators. The paper examines the major challenges facing the technology, such as instability in translation quality, dependency on data and inherent biases, ethical and legal concerns, disruptions to traditional translation theories and practices, and difficulties in talent cultivation. Looking ahead, the paper identifies key development trends, including breakthroughs in technology, deeper interdisciplinary integration, educational reforms, the establishment of ethical standards, and the expansion of application scenarios. Despite the promising potential of GenAI, the paper emphasizes the need to address emerging issues, such as data security and ethical dilemmas, in order to ensure the sustainable development of the translation industry and facilitate more effective cross-cultural communication in a globalized world.
