Abstract

Objective: To explore the effect of a high-speed turbine drill combined with an ultrasonic bone knife in the extraction of impacted wisdom teeth. Methods: A total of 80 patients undergoing impacted wisdom tooth extraction from January 2024 to February 2025 were included as research subjects. Patients were divided into the control group (40 cases, treated with a high-speed turbine drill) and the observation group (40 cases, treated with a high-speed turbine drill combined with an ultrasonic bone knife) based on different treatment plans. The surgical-related indicators, pain intensity (visual analog scale, VAS), swelling degree, and complications were compared between the two groups. Results: The operation time in the observation group was shorter than that in the control group (P < 0.05). The intraoperative blood loss in the observation group was less than that in the control group (P < 0.05). At 24 hours and 48 hours postoperatively, the scores for pain and swelling in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P < 0.05). The total incidence of complications in the observation group was lower than that in the control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion: The combination of a high-speed turbine drill and an ultrasonic bone knife in the extraction of impacted wisdom teeth can shorten the operation time, reduce intraoperative blood loss, alleviate postoperative pain and swelling, and decrease the incidence of complications.
