Abstract

The external communication of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) is a crucial part of promoting Chinese culture globally. This paper takes Lanzhou Carved Gourds and Gannan Tibetan Opera as case studies to explore innovation in the external translation and communication of Gansu’s ICH under digital empowerment. It analyzes the characteristics of Gansu’s ICH, the needs for its external communication, and the bottlenecks in its translation. On this basis, by integrating multimodal translation theory and the application of digital humanities in ICH dissemination, the paper studies the external translation strategies for these two different types of ICH, designs digital-empowered dissemination paths concerning building a Gansu ICH Digital Museum, formulating communication strategies for short video platforms, and carrying out cross-border IP cooperation and puts forward practical suggestions and prospects such as jointly establishing laboratories, developing courses, and promoting via the Digital Silk Road of Silk, aiming to promote the international dissemination of Gansu’s ICH.
