Rethinking Oral English Homework: Addressing Challenges Through Innovative Design in Junior High Schools

Abstract

Against the background of globalization and the digital transformation of education, the design of oral English homework for junior high school students urgently needs innovation to meet the requirements of cultivating students’ core abilities. This article focuses on the main challenges of current oral assignments, including monotonous formats, lack of contextualization, and feedback delays. Combining language acquisition theory, constructivist learning principles, and psychological frameworks, a four-dimensional innovative design framework of “life-oriented, contextualized, collaborative, and interdisciplinary” is proposed. This study aims to transform oral assignments into dynamic tools for enhancing students’ language proficiency and cross-cultural communication skills by simulating real-life scenarios, integrating immersive situations with virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies, and using intelligent voice assessment systems for immediate feedback. In addition, project-based learning and STEAM interdisciplinary tasks are introduced to integrate language application with higher-order thinking abilities. Studies show that scientifically designed oral English homework can effectively stimulate students’ learning participation, improve oral English proficiency, and provide operational references for junior high school English teaching.
