Abstract

A job interview is a formal meeting between a job applicant and a potential employer to assess the applicant’s suitability for a job. Adoption of a persuasive approach could strategically highlight the strengths and positive attributes of a job applicant, whilst combining logic and emotion to entice the interviewers’ perception in their favor. Studies have shown a strong correlation between effective and persuasive communication skills and the likelihood of receiving a job offer. This article examines a case where rhetorical skills make effective persuasion in job interviews, which provides a pedagogical implication on how students can learn to create distinctive messages of values to ensure that the points being made are clear, compelling, and persuasive during a job interview.
