Abstract
English letters for international engineering management are core tools for contract management and formal documents with legal effect, the writing quality of which is directly related to communication efficiency, risk control, and even project success. Guided by Text Typology, this article explores the structure, main layouts, text types, and linguistic features of these letters, while analyzing typical writing errors and corresponding countermeasures. As an essential tool for contract management, such letters follow a standardized structure and three major layouts. Linguistically, they feature the frequent use of professional terms and abbreviations, habitual application of the modal verb “shall”, objective and formal expression, and concise and rigorous sentence patterns. Furthermore, this article identifies typical errors in international engineering management letters writing, and proposes targeted optimization suggestions based on Text Typology. It aims to assist engineering managers in improving the letters’ accuracy and effectiveness, thereby contributing to the advancement of international engineering practices and providing insights for related research.
