Abstract
This paper reviews the core definitions, theoretical origins, and analytical frame-works of CDA, with a particular focus on Fairclough’s three-dimensional model and its extension to digital multimodal discourse. It aims to systematically clarify CDA’s theoretical connotations, sort out global research trajectories, and put forward targeted development paths for its Chinese studies. The study covers CDA’s interdisciplinary foundations, the operational logic of its classic analytical framework, as well as its application in digital scenarios such as short videos and online classrooms, and also conducts a comparative analysis of Chinese and international CDA scholarship. It is found that international CDA has developed a relatively mature theoretical system yet exhibits limited contextual adaptability in non-Western settings, while Chinese research has made certain progress in theoretical introduction but still suffers from gaps in empirical depth, localization, and interdisciplinary integration. This review helps standardize CDA’s core concepts, provides a theoretical reference for its application in digital and educational contexts, and lays a preliminary foundation for the localization and innova-tion of CDA research in complex social scenarios in China.
