About the Translator

Yingmei Qu is a Professor of Linguistics at the School of International Studies, Northeast Normal University, China. She serves as the Head of the Contemporary Linguistic Theory Research Team and the Lead of the Jilin Regional Culture Communication and Research Base. She has been recognized as a Supervisor of Outstanding Graduate Theses in Jilin Province and has received the Outstanding Teacher Award from Northeast Normal University as well as the title of Dongshi Young Scholar. Professor Qu is a Standing Council Member of both the Functional Linguistics Committee of the China Association for Comparative Studies of English and Chinese and the Jilin Provincial Foreign Language Association. She was also a Visiting Scholar at the University of California, Berkeley, USA.

Her research interests lie in systemic functional linguistics,contrastive linguistics and translation. She has published extensively on topics including the contrastive analysis of nominalizations and nominal groups in English and Chinese, translation shifts of nominalizations from Chinese into English, comparative studies between systemic functional grammar and cognitive grammar, and the role of grammatical metaphor in the discourse construction of Chinese political texts within the theoretical framework of systemic functional linguistics.

In recent years, she has published several academic works, including two translated books, An Introduction to the Politics of Education (2022, The Commercial Press) and Grammatical Metaphor: Insights From Systemic Functional Linguistics (2025, Routledge), as well as one authored monograph, A Study of Student Translators’ Language from the Perspective of Systemic Functional Linguistics (2022, Jilin Renmin Press). Her recent academic articles include A Study of Student Translators’ Language from the SFL Perspective (2025), A Review of Grammatical Metaphor Studies Based on CiteSpace (2021), and Constructing a Practice Community for Professional Translation Postgraduates from the Perspective of Industry–Education Integration (2025). Professor Qu’s research contributes to advancing systemic functional linguistics in translation studies, promoting the integration of linguistic theory and translation pedagogy, and enhancing the application of SFL to real-world discourse analysis.
