Author’s Introduction

Liang Sicheng (April 20, 1901-January 9, 1972), originally from Xinhui, Guangdong, was born in Tokyo, Japan. Dedicated to the study and preservation of ancient Chinese architecture throughout his life, he was an architectural historian, architectural educator and architect, and is regarded as the father of modern Chinese architecture.

Liang was an academician of the Academia Sinica (1948), a member of the Department of Philosophy and Social Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the head of the Design Division of the Committee for the Construction of the Monument to the People’s Heroes, where he participated in the design of the Monument to the People’s Heroes, the National Emblem of the People’s Republic of China, and other works.
