"Journal of Humanities, Arts and Social Science" Article Recommendation: Beihang Scholars Analyze the Disparities in After-School Extended-Hours Services Between East and West Under the "Double Reduction" Policy
Since the introduction of China's "double reduction" policy, after-school extended-hours services have become a focal point in the field of education. But how does the implementation of this policy differ between eastern and western regions? A recent article in the Journal of Humanities, Arts and Social Science by Beihang University scholars Jiayi Yu, Ting Wang, and Quanhong Jiang offers valuable insights.

The study focuses on Beihang Primary School and Chongqing Tianba Primary School, employing interviews, comparative analysis, and the Likert five-point scale to assess the supply and demand-side situation of after-school extended-hours services. It reveals that while Beihang Primary School has strong faculty and rich courses, popular courses have limited capacity and rigid schedules, leading to supply-demand mismatches. In contrast, Tianba Primary School suffers from resource shortages, offering limited and unattractive courses that fail to engage students.
The research pinpoints several key issues: the limitations of school resources, intense family demand for educational services, and poor communication between home and school. On the supply side, schools are constrained by insufficient funding, site, and teachers. On the demand side, parents' high expectations for their children often don't align with what schools can provide.
Based on the findings, the study proposes that schools upgrade facilities, expand activity spaces, update educational concepts, and diversify courses. Families are encouraged to take more responsibility in their children's education and have realistic expectations of after-school services. The research also calls for greater collaboration between the government and society to support educational reform.
Though the study has limitations like a small sample size, it provides a new perspective for understanding China's educational reform. Its results can guide the improvement of after- school extended-hours services and promote educational equity.
