“Innovative Approaches in Rethinking Design Studios”

Journal of Humanities, Arts and Social Science is preparing a special issue that will host exciting and original research. In this special issue, under the theme of “Innovative Approaches in Rethinking Design Studios”, various contributions from different disciplines will be brought together to address original theoretical and applied research aimed at enhancing design studios. In the context of design education evolving into a learner-centred process, where different modes of thinking exist, interactive approaches and pathways become prominent. The learning environment needs open content that is receptive to the innovations of the era. Design studios, which create an experiential environment, have the potential to directly contribute to personal and professional development. Studio participants should be directed towards processes where they can showcase their knowledge and experiences, enhancing their professional development. Such an environment enables the development process in the studio to go beyond its internal boundaries and establish connections on a global scale. Within this framework, individuals act on what they already know and explore what they don't know. The studio's collective interactions and various extracurricular practices undoubtedly create unlimited freedom in thinking and envisioning. Design education should be approached as a living practice that is nourished by the interaction of all actors involved in the process. The studio framework possesses a participatory and flexible structure based on the content integrated into the learning program. It also expects the filtering of knowledge acquired through theoretical courses and the inclusion of informal educational potentials. The learning process, which cannot be limited to purely formal education, should be supported by any informal educational opportunities that contribute to professional development. Design studios should provide an environment that allows learners to discover knowledge themselves.
