Cybersecurity in Critical Infrastructure: Interdisciplinary Challenges

Dear Colleagues,

As cyber threats to critical infrastructure grow increasingly sophisticated and frequent, the need for innovative methodologies and interdisciplinary approaches to identify, assess, and mitigate systemic vulnerabilities has become increasingly critical. Cybersecurity and infrastructure protection stand at the forefront of this transformation, offering new pathways for safeguarding essential services and ensuring operational continuity. Meanwhile, the digitalization of critical infrastructure presents both unprecedented opportunities for efficiency and resilience and significant challenges in managing complex threat landscapes, coordinating multi-sector responses, and maintaining public trust and safety.

This special issue aims to explore the intersection of cybersecurity, critical infrastructure protection, interdisciplinary collaboration, and risk governance. It seeks to highlight cutting-edge research, technological advancements, and strategic frameworks that enhance the design, implementation, and adaptive management of resilient infrastructure security systems. Topics of interest include:

• Cyber-physical system security and industrial control network protection

• Interdisciplinary cybersecurity frameworks for energy, transport, and water sectors

• Equity, access, and regional disparities in infrastructure cyber resilience

• The evolving role of public-private partnerships in critical infrastructure defense

• Ethical considerations and accountability in cyber incident response and disclosure

• Data integrity, threat intelligence sharing, and operational continuity in secure environments

• Comparative studies on cyber resilience across infrastructure types and regions

• Policy and workforce development for sustainable infrastructure security governance

We welcome original research articles, case studies, and reviews that contribute to advancing the dialogue and practice in this dynamic and evolving field.
