As the proliferation of connected devices and data-intensive applications accelerates, the need for innovative methodologies and interdisciplinary approaches to deploy, manage, and optimize edge computing and IoT infrastructures has become increasingly critical. Edge intelligence and ubiquitous connectivity stand at the forefront of this transformation, offering new pathways for enabling real-time processing and low-latency services across urban and rural environments. Meanwhile, the expansion of IoT ecosystems presents both unprecedented opportunities for smart city innovation and rural development and significant challenges in ensuring reliable connectivity, addressing infrastructure disparities, and maintaining data security and system interoperability.
This special issue aims to explore the intersection of edge computing, IoT deployment, smart city applications, and rural connectivity solutions. It seeks to highlight cutting-edge research, technological advancements, and architectural frameworks that enhance the design, implementation, and sustainable management of distributed computing systems. Topics of interest include:
• Edge computing architectures and resource optimization for IoT
• Interdisciplinary frameworks for IoT across urban and rural settings
• Equity, access, and digital divide in connectivity infrastructure planning
• The evolving role of public-private partnerships in bridging connectivity gaps

We welcome original research articles, case studies, and reviews that contribute to advancing the dialogue and practice in this dynamic and evolving field.
Manuscript Submission Information
Authors should submit their manuscripts for the special issue by emailing them as an attachment to specialissue@hillpublish.com or by using the online submission system. The manuscript should be submitted by one of the authors, and submissions by anyone other than the authors will not be accepted. Additionally, the submitted manuscript should include a cover letter that specifies the special issue to which the manuscript is being submitted.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). The submitted papers should be properly formatted and written in fluent English. All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a double-blind peer-review process.
