Green Computing: Energy-Efficient Algorithms, Hardware, and Data Centers

Dear Colleagues,

As computational demand and data volumes continue to grow at an unprecedented scale, the need for innovative methodologies and interdisciplinary approaches to design, evaluate, and deploy energy-efficient computing systems has become increasingly critical. Green computing and sustainable architecture stand at the forefront of this transformation, offering new pathways for reducing energy consumption and mitigating environmental impact across the computing lifecycle. Meanwhile, the proliferation of data-intensive applications presents both unprecedented opportunities for efficiency gains and significant challenges in ensuring performance parity, addressing embodied carbon, and maintaining scalability and system reliability.

This special issue aims to explore the intersection of green computing, energy-efficient algorithms, sustainable hardware design, and data center optimization. It seeks to highlight cutting-edge research, technological breakthroughs, and systemic frameworks that enhance the design, implementation, and responsible management of environmentally sustainable computing infrastructures. Topics of interest include:

• Energy-aware algorithms and complexity optimization for sustainable computation

• Interdisciplinary frameworks for integrating hardware, software, and thermal management

• Equity, access, and global disparities in sustainable computing infrastructure

• The evolving role of cloud providers and data centers in carbon-aware operations

• Ethical and environmental considerations in computing lifecycle assessment

• Workload scheduling, renewable integration, and energy proportionality in data centers

• Comparative studies on energy efficiency across architectures and deployment contexts

• Policy and workforce development for sustainable green computing ecosystems

We welcome original research articles, case studies, and reviews that contribute to advancing the dialogue and practice in this dynamic and evolving field.

Manuscript Submission Information

Authors should submit their manuscripts for the special issue by emailing them as an attachment to specialissue@hillpublish.com or by using the online submission system. The manuscript should be submitted by one of the authors, and submissions by anyone other than the authors will not be accepted. Additionally, the submitted manuscript should include a cover letter that specifies the special issue to which the manuscript is being submitted.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). The submitted papers should be properly formatted and written in fluent English. All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a double-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Guidelines page.
